Help Us Light Up Niles In Blue for Autism Awareness Day
| |
To Our Local Businesses of Niles
We are Niles residents as well as parents of children affected by autism. Children with Autism have significant social, communication, and behavioral challenges over a lifetime. Currently there are 25 students in Niles Schools diagnosed with Autism, out of the 572 special education students (some still awaiting a diagnosis),with numbers continually rising.
On April 2, 2012, Autism Speaks, along with the global autism community, will celebrate the fifth annual United Nations-sanctioned World Autism Awareness Day. In honor of this historic day, Autism Speaks launched Light It Up Blue, a way to recognize the day around the world. They have partnered with iconic landmarks, universities, hotels, sporting venues and retail stores in cities around the globe who have joined the fight against autism. By illuminating landmarks in blue on Monday, April 2, 2012 –World Autism Awareness Day, these notable sights will help shine a bright spotlight on autism, which now affects 1 in 110 children, and 1 in 70 boys.
Our purpose is to ask if we can count on our local businesses to assist in showing support for World Autism Awareness Day by participating in the Autism Speaks Light It Up Blue campaign by lighting a building or monument blue on April 2, 2012 (or during the month of April).
Our city can participate by:
• Illuminating businesses as well as the Main street and the Niles Amphitheatre in blue on April 2 (or during the month of April – Autism Awareness Month)
• Wear blue on April 2, take pictures and submit them to Autism Speaks for their Light It Up Blue website (www.lightitupblue.org).
Please contact us via email at: kss200322@yahoo.com or Daphne.Carter@ymail.com for your blue light no later than March 15, 2012 and participate in the Autism Speaks Light It Up Blue campaign to show that the City of Niles supports the autism community.
Thank you for your time and support.
Sincerely,
Jolene Davis &
Daphne Carter
